daylight saving time is actually a fairly recent invention. It was designed as a way to conserve energy costs during the First World War. Businesses really do make a profit because we have that extra hour of light in the evening. In the summertime, most kids are not in school anymore and having more time at the end of the day means they don't want to give it up.
