The Dangers of Child Labor on Cocoa Farms
The Fair Labor Association, commissioned by Nestle, visited 260 farms and found 56 workers under the age of 18. In one farm, a young worker hadn't received a salary for a year's worth of work. Even in so-called family farms, kids are made to do dangerous tasks, like using machetes and transporting heavy loads. Children as young as 11 years old have sued Nestle and other chocolate companies,. trying to hold them accountable for this.
