The International Forces Behind Aboriginal Recognition

In 2007, then Prime Minister John Howard announced that he wanted to see indigenous people belatedly recognised in the Constitution. But it was really only in 2017 when a large body of indigenous activists gathered at Uluru or Ayers Rock in Central Australia and they ultimately agreed on a program enshrined in what's called the Uluru Statement from the Heart. Do you feel like there are international forces that are putting pressure on this? Look, I dare say there would be like-minded people around the world who would be sympathetic and supportive of this. On balance, it is the past that has made us what we are and if on balance we are proud of what we are.
