The Sublinearity of Companies

The average lifespan of a US publicly traded company when it posts on the stock exchange is about 10 years. The metabolism of an animal that grows quickly and then tapers off and then dies is significantly different than the metabolism, which has socioeconomic stuff. That's why if you get any major fluctuation, companies get into trouble because they're just sitting on top of the wave.
