The Importance of Cross-Discipline Research

Francis: There are a number of interdisciplinary journals but none of them turn out to be very important because nobody knows how to write good papers that really cross disciplines. Francis: Some of the best unanswered questions are the ones that are in the edges of disciplines and require different kinds of thinking. It would be fantastic if we could do more high-quality cross-discipline research but I also think frankly it takes special people with special talent to be able to pull that up.
