The prevailing view in the ethical guidelines for psychologists is around affirming care. The downside to that? Well we're talking about a developmental stage where if gender dysphoria was treated as any other mental health condition, we don't affirm anorexia or bulimia. So along with affirmative care also comes what is a new industry around sex change through hormones or puberty blockers. Parents are extremely interested in what are the impacts of such invasive and potentially harmful medical interventions.
