The Importance of Library Catalogues in Antiquity
Librarians were often slaves or freedmen who had won their freedom by being so hyper intellect the aspect of ancient libraries, where i think an incredible amount of labour went on. I mentione briefly the embargo on books that arrived in er in egyptey would get any ship with books on and tht the librarians got all the books on it to copy them. It was by dictation and mass armies. One of the most interesting questions about antiquity is always how did they manage to run those incredibly sophisticated cultures without the printing press?
