The Vertical Role of Video and Performance
Iceland has had a consistent importance to you over many, many years now. Did you go there as a deliberate act in terms of art making, or was it a coincidental that Iceland loomed up so large in your imagination? I went there because I read all the Icelandic sagas. A friend told me how beautiful they were. It's partly about that whole relationship, isn't it? Because film had been a huge influence, the structure of film. When I may get into performance, I related it to other mediums like poetry and film. And the vertical role is like frames in film going by.
