In 1896, a mystery light reappeared over Sacramento. This led to the belief that these were Martians who were trying to kidnap an Earthling for unknowable, but potentially nefarious persons. The Armada arrived in San Francisco on November 21, 1896. And those are the cities that the aliens would target presumably. But they gave up when they quote, lacked the physical strength to force him aboard.
