The Deep Water Horizon Oil Spill
The poem is an elegy for this particular turtle, but also about many other turtles. In the context of this poem, many people wil remember the deep water horizon spill that started on april 20 ten. There were 210 million gallons of oil discharged during 87 days. That took up 70 thousand square miles the size oklahoma. And it's considered one of the most terrible, disastrous environmental disasters.
