Is There a Subconscious Reaction to Pattern Recognition?
When you're learning something or teaching someone, you have to be aware of their cognitive limitations. There's only so many things you can think about at a time. When people are an expert, it doesn't change the size of their working memory. It only changes the quality of their long-term memory. And that allows them to use their well-constructed and well-elaborated, highly-automatized schemata in situations where we're talking about patterns.
