This is the fiftieth anniversary of the launch of pioneer ten, the very first space probe beyond mars. Why don't we see more missions like these, scrappy little ones to the outer planets? Or conversely, why dot we see so few? We've only ever done, anybody in the entire eight missions to the outer planet. Half of those missions happened in the 19 seventies. So why is that the case?
