The Importance of Asylum Claimants
There were 45,000 people roughly who arrived via small boat last year. 90% of those claimed asylum and that contributes around 7% to the total long-term immigration figure for last year. Once someone has applied for asylum, they get included in our immigration figure. But it will take several months if not years before a decision is made on their case.
