The Return to the Land of Ezra
In both pre and post exilic prophecy, the return to the land is cast as a form of new exodus that is awaited. The books of ezra and nehemiah are framed in ways that invitempare s with that earlier story. There is also a clear set of parallels be observed between cyrus's instructions and the people's return. Gordon davies describes this as a sort of call and response. But there is no davidic king here, but the gentile king, cyrus, and the willing people take the place that the i king once occupied.
