This is the first time that we have solid evidence. There were previous claims, but all of them have remained controversial because these claims were based on specific models. We cannot yet claim discovery as you call this evidence, but we can use it to make predictions about what could be going on in everyday protons.

Now, using machine learning to comb through huge amounts of experimental data, a team have shown evidence that the charm quark can be found within a proton, which may have important ramifications in the search for new physics.
