Life and Art from FT Weekend

CHAPTER

Plan Parenthood v K C Upheld Row

Rianon blames two legal doctrines which conservatives have been using to justify a very literal interpretation of the situation. Originalism is the idea that the constitution should be interpreted in the same way it would have been understood at the time that it was written, without correcting for context. And textualism means that you should interpret the constitution based only on its explicit text. If the constitution doesn't use the word abortion, there's no right to abortion. So here we are, it's 20 22. The supreme court is made up of six conservative justices who mostly abide by these philosophies, and three liberals. We're looking forward to seeing how this turns out.
