The Change in the Nature of Contemporary Protest
Sarah Burke: We looked at protests in 101 countries and also global and international protests. In roughly the first half of this period, the vast number of protests were for economic demands. The second half from around 2014 to the end of 2020, we see a real change in the types of protests. There are still protests for economic needs and demands,. But largely because these were not effectively addressed by governments, the protests become more political.
