The Effect of Antecedent Emotions on the Mind
Thomas calls these kinds of illusions antecedent because they go before the judgment. antecedent judgments are disordered because they prevent or make difficult judgments, he says. To illustrate, let's suppose that as the dough family approaches the front of the line, Jill begins screaming for a cake pop. Even if the cake pop really is the best option, it would still be better for Jill to desire the cake pop because Jane decides that it's good. This is better than for her to desire it without any consideration for what's good.
