Lewis and Tolkien's Dragons

Tolkien's dragons tend to be not just symbols of cunning and malice or something evil. Lewis tends to go fairly quickly, what am I trying to accomplish in the reader's minds? What am I hoping there will be? That sounds too didactic. Tolkien was much more into God as the creator of our world and our sensibilities.
