The Fear of the Electorate in Labor
Labor has got to not be frightened of making a big bold argument for the benefits of control immigration. Both parties know that there are economic benefits of migration, but they don't want to talk about those benefits. They want to focus on more and more control - which then unbalances the whole conversation. In many areas, the population has become more liberal. I certainly wouldn't imagine that the majority of people are sort of comfortable yet with immigration. But there has been a shift of attitude. And that's not really reflected in this very fearful debate that we have about the topic.
