Hurricane Season by Fernando Melkor is set in contemporary Mexico. It's divided into eight chapters, each of which is a kind of Rashomon-like attempt to show the murder of an old woman known as the witch. Each of their stories is told through their own perspective in a torrent of language. M. John Harrison might Harrison reviewed it and he said something that really chimed with me. He said, you kind of end it feeling elated even though you've had all of this terrible stuff. The thing I kept thinking of was Akatoni, the great Passelini film, that an attempt to show real people's lives in a real way.
