In America, the killing of George Floyd unleashed a wave that was felt around the world as people stood up to centuries of racial oppression and said no more. And while they had burned for years in California where I live, fires burned outside my doorstep. So that each fall we knew we had to wear masks,. We had N95 masks because you couldn't see the sun. What fell on your doorstep wasn't just ashes, but it was the death of other beings. The fragility of our society and the falsity of our society was laid bare.
