Is the Northern Ireland Protocol Bill Consistent With International Law?

The UK government is seeking to rely on the international law doctrine of necessity. This can provide a lawful justification for non-performance of treaty obligations. But in these circumstances, it seems unlikely that this could be satisfied. In doing so, Britain risks ceding moral authority and showing itself to be an unreliable treaty partner. And it also inflicts grave reputational damage on the world stage.
