Is Pace Not What Distorts Progress?

The more you cannot worry about pace, the more you'll have good intensity distributions. A study found that long intervals that aren't intensity controlled are associated with less growth than anything else an athlete can do. If you're worried about pace when you're doing mile intervals, you're guaranteed going to do those mile intervals too hard. Smooth workouts, fast strides, you will get as fast as you need to as long as you do like once every four to six weeks, something really, really, really hard.
