The Different Types of Fibers Used in Ceramic Composites

Ceramics are because of their brittleness, you also using fibers here or is it something else? So it is the fiber, but what's really giving the toughness is the combination of the fiber and a special interface coating or interface engineering on that fiber. In these materials, the crack will go around the fiber without failing the fiber in that crack plane. And so that fiber is actually resisting the opening of the crack and providing that awesome damage tolerance.
