Erica had been working on fireball for ten years, designing the instrument and preparing for the launch. The balloon drifts up towards the sky, carrying what's called the pay load, a bundle of scientific instruments attached. Erica returned her focus to the telescope, but she kept her connection to the wild bird, which seemed to be looking after her.
