CHAPTER

How Do You Know if There Is a Nail Bed Laceration That Requires Repair?

Anton: I want to talk specifically about nail bed lacerations when it comes to fingertip injuries. For the patient who has a laceration of their nail, how do you know if there's a nail bedLaceration underneath that requires repair in the emergency department? Anton: The lateral film on the X-ray is really the key one to look at because if there’s a significant malalignment step off of the dorsal surface of the distal phalanx, then you're going to have to reduce that fracture and likely repair the nail bed.
