Teddy is just sort of this delusional guy who killed his wife kind of I don't think this movie really has anything that meaningful to say about mental illness. The more interesting question regarding mental illness here is probably with regards to Teddy's or Andrew's wife and the way she did the harm that she did because of her illness being neglected in part by Teddy. There's also a more larger conflict going on but it's more in the background about these different schools of psychology, he says. Ben Kingsley's character believes that if you just you know meet the patient on their terms you can find a way to connect with them through those means.
