Nitrous Oxide and the Role of It in Pregnancy

We're going to talk about mechanism of action and some specific caveats in just a minute but for the actual administration remember this is typically done in a 50-50 mixture, 50% mix of nitrous oxide and 50% oxygen. Nausea is one of the most common side effects for women using nitrous oxide for labor analgesia with an incidence that has been reported anywhere from about 5% to 45%. Other side effects may include dizziness, drowsiness and headache. And we're going to get into a very specific and weird issue with prolonged use at the end of the podcast.
