i am curious whether you have an opinion on why the relationship escalators so prevalent, so privileged and so adhered to. I'm really weary of kind of looking back historically and trying to imagine where the norms came from. Privilege is not just about your identity or the kind of relationship you may have. It is about how other people perceive and treat you. There are lots of ao institutional factors that make it daunting to leave, to jump off the escalator. And also, if most of your friends were coupled up, you rell lose a lot of those friends because couples are viewed as an intrinsic threat in coumhood.
