John Stone House, Founder of the Bank of England
In 1972, John Stone House founded a bank to help Bangladesh citizens repatriate money. The idea was that they would raise about 10 million pounds today. But the Sunday Times article and a slight change in the business mood meant that when it came to tot up the numbers, they hadn't got the million pounds at all. It wouldn't have been a terrible thing if he had failed - but Stones wasn't like that. He 'wasn't a man to admit failure'
