I think part of the problem with many of these folks is that if they believe that AI is going to become sentient, they also have to believe that we must have had a creator as well. Their vanity comes from their assumption that there was no creator for the human mind just bubbled up from the fluctuations of atoms over the millennia and millions of millennia and. We're completely a product of randomness and natural selection; surely a brilliant Stanford educated or Caltech discipline computer scientists can make a better mind than some random process of evolution. I mean it's just them, it's having no idea what the human mind is,. is the heart of the problem.
