What I Learned About Public Speaking in Middle School

i grew up in a very small, rural town. The high school was built in the fifties, and it was just tragically overcrowded. We all wrote letters into the local newspaper about why we thought there should or shouldn't be another high school. And so i remember my whole thing was, like, look, freedom of speech means that the government's not going to prosecute you for whatever you say.
