We resist reality with extraordinary creativity and tenacity. The theology of the cross is an enormously powerful tool for helping us to do that. Instead of fighting the negative thing in your life, you can say, no, this is God, and I am at the mercy of God. That can lead to enormous freedom, creativity, all sorts of things.
