The Tzadokites

In English they are known as the Sadducees from the Greek Sedukoi, which is the name they are known by in the New Testament. We mainly know them from the Roman Jewish historian Josephus who has an appalling reputation in the Jewish tradition. They seemed to have had a very high status and by associating themselves with the temple, they also associated themselves with the current overlords or ruling imperial power.
