The Most Proven Proteses in the Archaeological Record
The most prolific, shall we say, type of proteses in the archaeological record is hair. We have examples of false hair, wigs, hair pieces from various different places. Because hair is an organic mterial, it survives in either very hot and dry contexts, like egypt, or very cold and wet contexts like northern europe. And so women, in the main, seem to have been buried with heir wearing their wigs. So clearly very, very valued, very luxurious possessions.
