The Importance of Kindness in the Age of Black Girls
I wanted to make a story that felt sort of universal and talked about things that many black girls in our society face, including adultification bias and anti-fat bias. I think the thing that resonates most with me and comes specifically from my childhood is what I was described as being too sensitive. And so I feel so emotionally struck by the idea that a child like me could have been perceived as old enough or more responsible when absolutely I was not ready for that.
