Is Dogs Dreaming a Science?

Dianne Wertheim's new book is about the debate over whether animals dream. She argues that psychology has become too conservative in its approach to this issue. The mind of an animal is much more volatile than a physical object, so it may not lend itself to quantification and measurement like tables and chairs or planets do. There was eclipse of the animal psyche in the early twentieth century as psychologists became interested in emulating methods of the sciences.
