Propofol and Pain Induction

propofol has neither a high osmolality nor an extreme of pH. The relevant pain induction mechanism that has the most research behind it is propofol activation of transient receptor potential vanilloid or trip V receptors. This also induces local neuronal and immune cells to release neuropeptides associated with tissue damage and inflammation. These include calicrines and calcitonin gene-related peptide or CGRP.
