I think I'm pretty sure that they refer to the time from the middle of the 19th century to their success, like success in the Chinese Civil War as the century of humiliation. So having having Taiwan there is everyday proof that you're still not as powerful. It's also this economic prize. Like imagine what they could do with Taiwan today. And my assumption would be unless the leaders of China are insane, they don't see a reason to do that right now.
