The Problem With Jury Selection

A great multitude assembled within a small area is unquestionably more accessible to panic alarms, to unreflective enthusiasm and the like than a small meeting whose members can quietly discuss matters among themselves. Jury selection provides a wonderful analogy for why democratic or equal participation only becomes functional when it is selective,. It falls apart when you assume the burden will be distributed across the populace in every instance - i.e. voting directly in every single matter.
