How Did You Know When You Were Financially Independent?

Mary and I started relying on one salary. A lot of that income was then being used to overpay on our mortgage or invest in a stock market. So the better definition became, well, actually, the point at which our income from these various assets that we've been building over time is able to comfortably cover our monthly expenses. That was really, for us, the definition that we went with.
