When she first started getting help, seeking help for her substance use, but the focus on her when she encountered that system was not treating her mental illness. The language we use to define our problems is extremely important, because there's so much shame. She went from alcohol to cocaine, and her mental illness got worse and worse and worsead it wasn't long before the one support she had in her life, and he died, that she became homeless. It's really easy for people to sort of have knee jerk reactions when dealing with sulftis abuse and mental illness,.
