Stem cells are programmed into three different types of cells with master regulator gens. One would be embryonic tissue, one would be placenta and one would be yok sack. They mix them together in their artificial womb, which carefully controls pressure and oxygen exchange to simulate natural nutrient flow. Once inside the ee met, the three types of cells clumped together to form aggregates, which had the potential to develop into embryo like structures.
