The Importance of Self-Inquiry
The word outlook in the earlier sense means a place from which an observer looks out or watches anything. You never find a final witness because you are the ultimate witness and you are indefinable and unfindable in objective experience. Even the most neutral of definitions, self-concepts will ultimately lead to suffering. The fact that it causes suffering, there is wisdom in that. In a way, it should cause suffering because that suffering is saying, no, you are more than this, you are limiting yourself.
