The Darkness of the Night
When night falls and the darkness takes over, you lose all sense of time and space. Lights on the shore go out. Distant cargo vessels in the shipping lanes disappear over the horizon. There are no stars, no moon, no way to tell how far you've drifted or which direction. All you can do is take stock of your discomfort. The cold is torture, terrible and constant. Just a few more degrees and the cold will win. You'll lose consciousness and drown but not yet.
