Russia and Africa - The New for Russia
The Wagner Group entered Africa approximately in late 2016, and it did so after proving itself as an effective complementary counterinsurgency fighting force. It's funded those military operations through local donors, as well as mining resources in those respective countries. The Wagner Group has also deployed personnel to act as guardians of those mines,. So they can secure and smuggle those assets out for a profit, both for itself and the Russian state.
