The Role of Genes in Adaptive Behaviors
Dan Gilbert: We often refer to behaviors as maladaptive. He says humans are so adaptive to the dysfunction that's kind of thrust upon them. So a child who's having quote unquote maladaptive behaviors is actually just adapting to the hand they were dealt, he says. In contrast, like learning to ride a tricycle, you know, not every member of our species is going to be able to do it.Gilbert: Three systems seem to work together for that newborn. They're called salient system, mind sight system and social brain networks.
