The History of the Minoans

The Minoans did not have any defenses by means of fortified walls. Flying at Minoan settlements saw no need to fortify themselves against each other, or from foreign threats. Pirates have always been attracted to material wealth, something creed possessed in large measure. This image of the Minoans being an anti-war, peace-loving mercantile-only people may be overstated. The first signs of trouble occurred around 1700 BC when a great earthquake devastated and destroyed the palaces at Nossos, Fystos, Malia, and Zachros.
