Rilka was given to me by a girl i was in love with when i was 19. I guess you'd say love was more alien than the moon for stephen mitchell, and so was the german language. But like the moon, those things are also there real, full of light, full of mystery and romance. And although they're alien, they're ours too. In a way, the moon is romantic and mysterious, but it's ours. We can all bask in its light. we can all look up at it and own it. It belongs to everyone, languages like that, and rilka too. And as stephen Mitchell suggests, love.
